Love Theatre Day!

Posted on 17 November 2021

For those who don't know, Playhouse Whitley Bay underwent a major refurbishment that was completed in 2009, when HRH The Countess of Wessex officially reopened the building. The transformation of the venue was a key part of the North Tyneside Council £64million regeneration programme for Whitley Bay. It was and still is an integral part of the local community. A specially-commissioned installation by artist Rolf Wojciechowski, is displayed in the North corridor of the theatre to mark the re-opening and a time capsule in the form of a wooden box has been made by longtime theatre supporter Rid Stokoe, and filled with a collection of memorabilia from its proud past.

And if you've ever wondered - the blue contrast change of our auditorium seats represent the sea, and the our red seats are the bouys!
