SJM CONCERTS & JOHN O’CONNELL PRESENTS

SIMPLY DYLAN

A MUSICAL JOURNEY THROUGH THE CAREER OF ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST ICONIC SINGER-SONGWRITERS

A TRIBUTE TO BOB DYLAN, NOT A BOB DYLAN TRIBUTE

“…a show that every Bob Dylan fan should see!”  Louder Than War

Following a sold out show at The Auditorium at Echo Arena Liverpool in May, John O'Connell has announced he will be taking Simply Dylan on the road in January 2017 for a six date nationwide tour.

Simply Dylan is Liverpool based artist John O’Connell’s personal exploration and celebration of the rich and diverse work of Bob Dylan and is as straightforward as the title suggests: no frills, no gimmicks, no pretense, no lookalikes, no carbon copy.

This no ordinary interpretation of Bob Dylan has been seen by thousands of people across the UK and continues to delight Dylan fans young and old.  It is their precise playing and high energy renditions of Dylan's work from the 1970s onwards which has gathered momentum and generated incredible interest and fantastic reviews from Press across Europe.

John O'Connell (formerly of Groundpig) who leads Simply Dylan, is a rare talent who has had his name indelibly written in to the tapestry of Liverpool's music scene, has collaborated with other highly reputable musicians from the city to form his Dylan Band. John said: ‘Simply Dylan endeavours to focus on detail and colour performing some of Dylan’s more challenging songs; bringing his lyrical content and story-telling alive.”

Quotes about Simply Dylan:

‘The aim of the band is to play Bob Dylan’s back catalogue as well as possible without falling in the trap of doing a carbon copy of his recordings...a show that every Bob Dylan fan should see!’ Louder Than War

"John is a very talented singer songwriter who travelled with me on tour. He captivated audiences with his excellent voice and guitar playing..." Stephen Bishop

"I went to see Johnny O'Connell playing Simply Dylan at the Cavern Liverpool and it was absolutely stunning. Johnny is one of the most talented musicians I have come across and his Dylan set is effortlessly brilliant."  Peter Hooton, The Farm

"...Simply Dylan is considered to be the best band version of Bob Dylan." Antxon Etxeberria, Zarautz, Diario Vasco

“Simply Dylan … this guy is different, he’s not an impersonator, more an interpreter and an accomplished musician and singer to boot." John Baldwin, Desolation Row

“’Desolation Row’ performed by John O’Connell – Probably the most challenging song on the setlist tonight was given to John O’Connell a.k.a. Simply Dylan. They bill themselves as “a tribute to Bob Dylan, not a Bob Dylan tribute” and that’s spot on.  There’s no attempt to look or dress like Dylan or imitate his voice. Why would anyone do that when even Dylan hasn’t sounded like Dylan for decades? Instead you get John’s excellent and powerful voice, enunciating the words clearly backed up by a brilliant bassist and violinist. Having seen a mixed bag of gigs from the man himself ranging from inspired to forgettable, you could quite easily make the case that John and his band do a far better job of honouring the richest back catalogue in popular music history. Definitely going to try and catch a full show.” Trust The Wizards
