The original ‘People’s Poet,’ shot to prominence in the 1970s with a unique poetry style that engaged with urban life using a gritty honesty. JCC’s distinctive poetry and style of rapid-fire delivery was recorded and put to music by legendary producer Martin Hannett and a band of Mancunian superstars, such as Buzzcocks Pete Shelley and The Durutti Columns Vinnie Reilly. His massive hit album Snap Crackle and Bop, featuring seminal tracks like ‘Beasley St’ and ‘Evidently Chickentown,’ was one of 4 big-selling original album releases on Sony Records in the late 70s and early 80s. John quickly became one of the most prolific artistes of the Punk years.
