~~Tynemouth Scout District is part of the Scout Association, a global, co-educational youth movement, and covers the areas of North Shields, Wallsend, Howden, Battle Hill as well as Tynemouth Itself.
The District is part of Northumberland Scout County and made up of 15 Scout Groups, one of which is a Sea Scout Group. Most of them comprise of a Beaver Scout Colony (age 6 - 8), a Cub Scout Pack (age 8 - 10½) and a Scout Group (age 10½ -14).
The District also has 3 Explorer Scout Units for the 14-18 age range and a Network Scout Unit for 18-25 year olds, as well as two Scout Active Support Units for the 25+ age range who aren’t active leaders.
As of February 2010 there are over 800 people taking part in Scout activities as part of Tynemouth District, 200 of which are adults. Our membership has risen consistently over the past few years.
Every night of the week at least one of our Scout Groups is meeting somewhere in the District and many of our Groups, as well as the District itself, hold weekend activities such as visits, camps and other outdoor events so there is always something to take part in.
Once every two years Tynemouth Scouts take to the stage for their bi-annual Gang Show, similar in content to the Royal variety show. It is performed by youth and adult members from around the District and between the cast and the back stage crew there are quite often 200 people involved in this 2 hour show.
It doesn’t matter if your 6 or 60, whether you have been in the Scouts or not, gang shows appeal to all the family and make for a great night out.
All of the Sections in Tynemouth District are open to boys and girls aged between 6 and 25; the adult section is open from 25 to 60 plus. If you would like to join the worlds largest co-educational youth organisation, at any level.
