Wishes Come True for Local Charity at PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay

Posted on 07 February 2017

Blue Genie Entertainment Managing Director Gary Telfer and PLAYHOUSE Theatre Director Phil Smith presented the cheque for £4749.48 to Kath Nixon, who runs the charity. Gary Telfer said: “This is all thanks to the local people who have supported the show this year. Once all donations were counted, the final amount raised and given to the charity was actually £5000.17. We had in excess of 24,000 people through the door and collected at the exit at the end of each show for this worthy charity. People have been so generous. It’s great that we can help support the local community that supports us over the Christmas period.”

Out of Sight are an award-winning, parent-led, 'not for profit' charity who support visually impaired children and their families living in North Tyneside. This money will ensure each child gets a holiday at a local caravan park this year.

Theatre Director Phil Smith said: ‘We’re delighted to have been part of such a great fundraising campaign. Out of Sight do some fantastic work in the region for local families and we’re thrilled to have been able to provide a platform for our customers’ kind generosity, which never ceases to amaze us.’

Blue Genie Entertainment are encouraging local charities to get in touch if they wish to be considered for their support this year.

Blue Genie Entertainment, who have produced the pantomime at the PLAYHOUSE for the last 9 years, will return with Cinderella in December 2017. Due to overwhelming demand the run is being extended for a fourth consecutive year and will now open on the 2nd of December 2017 and finish on the 7th of January 2018. Gary said: “We are delighted to be returning to the PLAYHOUSE this year with the most popular pantomime of them all, Cinderella. It’s great to be extending the run again due to demand. We had already sold double the amount of tickets for Cinderella by the time Aladdin finished than we had in April 2016 for Aladdin, so it’s looking like it’s going to be another busy year at the PLAYHOUSE.” Local favourite Steve Walls will return for his 8th year.
