For a glimpse of what is on offer at the PLAYHOUSE in the coming year, read some selected highlights below.

On Friday the 20th January, we host Simply Dylan, Liverpool based artist John O’Connell’s personal exploration and celebration of the rich and diverse work of Bob Dylan. The show is as straightforward as the title suggests: no frills, no gimmicks, no pretense, no lookalikes, no carbon copy; a tribute to Bob Dylan, not a Bob Dylan tribute. On Friday the 10th of February, The Pitmen Poets will be celebrating the songs, humour, and culture of North East England's Coal Mining tradition, bringing together four of the region's leading champions of its musical heritage. Starring ex-Lindisfarne singer and writer Billy Mitchell, the songman from London’s west end musical Warhorse, Bob Fox, leading exponent of Tyneside song Benny Graham, and much-covered Folk Awards nominee songwriter Jez Lowe - individually and collectively the Pitmen Poets.

Jimeoin travels to the PLAYHOUSE with his Renonsense Man show on Sunday the 19th of February. An evening of brilliantly observed, ever-evolving and hilarious stand-up from the internationally acclaimed star of TV shows including ‘Live at the Apollo’, ‘Royal Variety Performance', ‘John Bishop Show’, CH4’s 'O2 Gala’ and ‘Sunday Night at the Palladium’. Don’t miss Ireland’s own "Witruvian Man" - live! There are two performances of Alice in Wonderland by the returning Immersion Theatre on Thursday the 23rd of February. Imagination runs wild and logic is abandoned in this fantastical, larger-than-life musical brimming with nonsensical fun and excitement for the entire family.

On Friday the 3rd of March, G4, the multi-platinum selling vocal harmony group will be live at the PLAYHOUSE with special guests and their trademark harmonies that wow audiences wherever they go. This will be an evening of Classic and Romantic music that will surely transport you away for the evening with these consummate entertainers. On Saturday the 25th of March, the PLAYHOUSE hosts Simon Weston - My Life, My Story, a truly inspirational show about one man's journey from the front line of war, being on the edge of death, to today being a happy and contented Father, Grandfather and national treasure.

Strictly’s favourite couple visit Whitley Bay on Tuesday the 11th of April when An Audience with Ian Waite & Natalie Lowe: 'Somewhere in Time' reaches the PLAYHOUSE. The dance showcase spectacular will give full on entertainment with a romantic feel and will transport you away to a place of wonderful moments, with lots of laughs and stories along the way. There will be four hilarious performances of Horrible Histories – The Best of Barmy Britain over Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th of June. We all want to meet people from history. The trouble is everyone is dead! So it’s time to prepare yourselves for this special one hour production of Horrible Histories live on stage! Could you beat battling Boudicca? Will you lose your heart or your head to Henry VIII? Can Parliament survive gunpowder Guy? Would you stand and deliver to dastardly Dick Turpin? Escape the clutches of Burke and Hare and move to the groove with party Queen Victoria! Don’t miss this horrible history of Britain with the nasty bits left in!

Jimmy Carr brings The Best Of, Ultimate, Gold, Greatest Hits Tour to the PLAYHOUSE with two shows on Saturday the 2nd of September. A man who has devoted his life to crafting perfect jokes and has left a trail of laughter in his wake, Jimmy Carr’s new tour will distil everything we love to laugh at and be shocked by, into one incredible, unparalleled night of entertainment. You can see all the greatest material from his extraordinary career in one show - this is the very best of Jimmy Carr.

Thank you very much for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon at the PLAYHOUSE.
