Super Gran memorabilia found in Tynemouth ahead of 25th Anniversary screening...

Organisers of the special 25th anniversary screening of classic children's television show Super Gran are celebrating after an elaborate prop from the series was found in Tynemouth.

The curious piece of equipment had been on display, but in a closed box, at the Green Ginger Shopping Arcade in the village.

It will be brought along to the PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay on the night of the event along with photographs and other memorabilia for ticketholders to enjoy.

"We couldn't believe there were still props from the series to be found so close to home so we'd love to hear from anyone that has anything else we could display at the screening," said Nichola McKenna from PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay.

"This find will add to things we've already found like the kilt and jacket worn by Billy Connolly in the series," she added.

With hundreds of seats for the one-off celebration of North East nostalgia already sold, the discovery of the prop will add to the experience and stir fond memories of the show.

Ash Wilkinson, production designer on the series, remembers the construction drawing he made for the prop and suggests it was one of the many odd creations that the character Inventor Black dreamed up, probably as part of his laboratory's air conditioning.

The 25th anniversary screening of Super Gran takes place on Friday 24 February, at PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay. All tickets are £5 and available in person at the PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay box office or by telephone on 0844 277 2771 and online at online.
