Calling all budding performers!! Day 8 Productions hold open auditions for West Side Story...

Day8 Productions, in association with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Open Stages, is presenting a stunning new, full-scale production of Bernstein’s ‘West Side Story’ at the Playhouse Whitley Bay in April 2012.

Written by one of the finest teams ever assembled for a musical show, West Side Story transports a timeless, classic love story to the raw urban streets of New York City in the mid-1950s. The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The young protagonist, Tony, one of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks.  A weave of conflict, prejudice, split loyalties and tragedy ensues.

With a score consisting of some of theatre’s most memorable and moving numbers, including Tonight, Maria, Somewhere, I Feel Pretty, America and Gee, Officer Krupke. The show offers you the opportunity to sing, dance and act your heart out in this extraordinary production of a vintage-yet-grittily-contemporary musical.

So if you are:

• A performer aged between 16 and 40?
• Proficient in dance, theatre and vocal technique?
• Available now until end April 2012?

Please contact mike@day8productions.org for further details. We would especially encourage male interest.

Please note this production of West Side Story is an amateur production.
